Slouchy Peach

August 31, 2011 § 7 Comments

sunnies and sandals: Nordstrom, tank: gifted, shorts: Target

With the near 100 degree heat in the valley this week, I could not bear wearing pants to work. I really enjoy being able to get outside at lunch and completely remove myself from work for an hour, so with the high temperature I figured shorts were my best bet. These work-appropriate longer shorts are a fun slouchy shape that I love pairing with flowy tops to play off the easy shape even further. Adding a hint of femininity, the peach floral tank fits the bill nicely. Strappy tan sandals take this look from weekend wear to (casual) work attire in one step. I believe by switching from flats to heels while wearing any slouchy combo, you can dress it up in an instant. ♥

English Rose

Since Kate Moss is one of my ultimate style icons, I was literally enchanted when I came across her wedding photos. This collection photographed by Mario Testino (whose schedule she changed the date of her nuptials for) would evoke a romantic in anyone. Kate wanted a wedding with a 1920’s Great Gatsby feel and as you can tell, she nailed it while still adding her signature rock-and-roll touch.

Warning to all my neighbors with gardens: I may be visiting while wearing heels and lace… ♥

Party in a Dress

August 29, 2011 § 18 Comments

sunnies: Nordstrom, necklace: Cara Couture, dress: Parade, shoes: Nine West

When I put on this dress I am instantly in party mode. I decided to put this on mid-week last week to brighten up my day. It did just that!  With its classic shape and fun Pucci-esque print, this is one purchase that will last the test of time. Here I dressed it up with a fun statement necklace and funky sandals. Next time, hopefully I will be wearing it to a party instead of work. ♥

More Jewels for You

August 26, 2011 § 20 Comments

Some of you may have seen the announcement of another giveaway on Facebook this week and I am staying true to my word. With all the pieces of JewelMint I have worn in this week’s posts (including a new necklace here today), it is not hard to guess where this giveaway will be coming from! See the details on how to win at the bottom of this post!

Today’s JewelMint necklace was a piece that I wouldn’t normally gravitate to, kind of like the delicate gold bracelet in yesterday’s post. I wanted to get it because it is so elegant and I really love the mix of metals. This gives me the ability to wear silver or gold earrings as well as either metal rings. I also think this can be dressed up or down (I am dying to test it out with a plain old white tee and boyfriend jeans). ♥

sunnies: Nordstrom, shirt: Victorias Secret, skirt: Zara, sandals: Target

Giveaway Details: JewelMint is upping their game and giving 2 of my lovely readers the chance to win a piece of Jewelry (of their choice). Read more about JewelMint from their last giveaway here. In order to be qualified for a chance to win this time, make sure to 1) take this style quiz 2) comment on the JewelMint Blog 3) either tweet about this giveaway to @MsTwirlySkirts and @JewelMint OR comment on my Facebook page. The winners will be announced next Friday 9/2.

Crochet and Gold

August 25, 2011 § 22 Comments

tank: Urban Outfitters, leggings: Zara, shoes: Chinese Laundry, sunnies: Nordstrom

Being a boho lover, I can’t seem to get enough of the crochet comeback. When I received this tank (and this previously seen vest) for my July birthday, I was transported to crochet heaven. There are so many ways I want to wear this that I’m sure you will soon see some more options. Since the obvious pairing would be some chunky jewelry and maybe a scarf or two, I wanted to surprise you all with it’s first appearance. So, I let this JewelMint Corsica Bracelet be the lone star on my wrist (unlike my arm garden). The bright metal paired with milky white stones adds a hint of classic sophistication to an otherwise hippie-esque outfit. This bracelet is interesting enough to stand on its own like it did here with a powerhouse of crochet, but it may be invited to a future arm party as well. PS: I had to show off our grown up fur-baby!  ♥

Arm Garden

August 24, 2011 § 23 Comments

sunnies: Nordstrom, bracelets: JewelMint, vest: Express, dress: Anthropologie, belt: Target, shoes: New York & Co.

If you are not familiar with the craze of the arm party, you can get filled in here. The trend was coined by the Man Repeller and quickly adopted by all those who can’t just put on one bracelet. Always a fan of layering my bracelets to the max, I’ll never turn down the opportunity to invite more attendees to my arm party. When JewelMint sent this precious Garden Patch Trio to me, I rejoiced at the new arm garden I had going on. With the bright colors and floral pattern, this trio of bracelets was screaming for me to pair them with a bright color and a boho look, so I listened. ♥

Spritz

August 23, 2011 § 13 Comments

Every time I leave the house without perfume on, I end up feeling naked. The same goes for leaving without sunglasses or my cell phone, for more obvious reasons. Perfume gives the same sense of finality to the getting-ready process as a great accessory. I prefer keeping a few different bottles on hand for various moods and occasions. If I have on a bold outfit that needs a strong scent to keep up, I like to spritz appropriately. On the other hand, a romantic date night will need a sexy and feminine scent. I have several favorites, but right now I cannot get enough of YSL Parisienne. It is extremely feminine with lots of floral and fruity notes with an underlying “woody structure”. I feel ultra glamorous every time I spray this on, and recently had to restock. What is your go-to perfume? ♥

Mermaid Skirt

August 22, 2011 § 21 Comments

top: Target, skirt: Anthropologie, sandals: New York & Co., necklace: JewelMint

With all the different maxi skirts floating around, I couldn’t resist purchasing yet another one this summer. This trend does not look like it will die down anytime soon and I am not complaining. Unlike the little flirty summer dresses I have been flaunting in the August heat, this is one look that I can carry into Fall and beyond. This particular skirt has a mermaid shape, bringing structure to the maxi style. Add great stripes placed at a flattering angle and the whole look becomes modern instead of bridal gone wrong. Since it is still nice and warm in LA, I paired this with a simple white tank, letting the skirt take center stage. ♥

Metal Head

August 18, 2011 § 22 Comments

scarf: vintage, tank: Urban Outfitters, pants: J. Crew, shoes: Target, bracelet: Deloche, ring: Forever 21

I have been finding every opportunity to wear a DIY turban ever since I first discovered the idea. The last time I posted about it, I was rocking a floral print scarf turned turban and loved the sweet effect it gave to the trend. This time, I wanted to spice it up a little, so I wore a metallic print scarf that I bought at a flea market. Usually I wear this scarf as a makeshift belt or tie it onto a purse, but with my craving for more turban opportunities, I was inspired to utilize this scarf’s striking pattern for just that. What would have been a pretty basic tank and pant outfit suddenly has interest in the form of a shiny head-turning half turban. Have you been experimenting with this trend? ♥
