Mermaid Skirt

August 22, 2011 § 21 Comments

top: Target, skirt: Anthropologie, sandals: New York & Co., necklace: JewelMint

With all the different maxi skirts floating around, I couldn’t resist purchasing yet another one this summer. This trend does not look like it will die down anytime soon and I am not complaining. Unlike the little flirty summer dresses I have been flaunting in the August heat, this is one look that I can carry into Fall and beyond. This particular skirt has a mermaid shape, bringing structure to the maxi style. Add great stripes placed at a flattering angle and the whole look becomes modern instead of bridal gone wrong. Since it is still nice and warm in LA, I paired this with a simple white tank, letting the skirt take center stage. ♥

Metal Head

scarf: vintage, tank: Urban Outfitters, pants: J. Crew, shoes: Target, bracelet: Deloche, ring: Forever 21

I have been finding every opportunity to wear a DIY turban ever since I first discovered the idea. The last time I posted about it, I was rocking a floral print scarf turned turban and loved the sweet effect it gave to the trend. This time, I wanted to spice it up a little, so I wore a metallic print scarf that I bought at a flea market. Usually I wear this scarf as a makeshift belt or tie it onto a purse, but with my craving for more turban opportunities, I was inspired to utilize this scarf’s striking pattern for just that. What would have been a pretty basic tank and pant outfit suddenly has interest in the form of a shiny head-turning half turban. Have you been experimenting with this trend? ♥

When a pattern on a piece of clothing speaks for itself, it makes creating an outfit around it that much easier. I wore this outfit while shopping and walking around the town in St. Tropez. It took seconds to throw together when I was packing for the trip because all you need it basics since the geometric pattern is so interesting on its own. I paired it with a summer go-to, jean shorts, which were already going in my bag for several other outfits. After slipping on some cute flip-flops, my trusty straw fedora and some accent jewelry, I was set! Get the look with any of these look-a-likes ♥

(of)matter Giveaway

August 12, 2011 § 37 Comments

sunnies: Nordstrom, dress: Forever 21, flats: Tory Burch

While perusing the jewelry on Etsy, I came across a shop that immediately caught my eye. The quirky name (of)matter meshes so well with the unique, handmade jewelry. There are necklaces with numbers, stones, or shaped metals and all of them have a vintage-yet-trendy feel. Each one makes a statement while still managing to look delicate and interesting. They recently sent me the inverted triangle to show off to all of you and it instantly drew me in with the brass color and perfect length. Needless to say, I haven’t stopped wearing this with anything and everything (I wore it in France here).

It gets even better: (of)matter is offering one of these stunning inverted triangle necklaces as a giveaway to one of my lucky readers!  Just make sure to head over to their shop and tell me what you like about their jewelry style in the comments below. Also, you must be a fan of Twirly Skirts on Facebook and follow me on Twitter to qualify to win. This giveaway is open internationally too:) Good luck! ♥

Get a look similar to the one I am wearing here with one of (of)matter’s necklaces and a dress like this, this or this! If you want even more vintage shopping pleasure, head on over to Lackluster Co., which comes from the same fab owner as (of)matter. Giveaway ends Thursday 8/18 and winner will be announced 8/19!
