There is one wall in our apartment that just needed something. I didn’t know what exactly, so it has just been sitting there for almost a year looking pretty bland. I didn’t want to fill it up with just anything because I wanted to love what I put up there. There is nothing worse than rushing to buy decorative items and then end up hating them because you just weren’t that into them. Finally, when browsing the mall yesterday on my lunch hour, I discovered this clock and it practically shouted out to me. It has our style, which is bold and modern, so I knew it would fit into our apartment seamlessly. It also looks pretty unique, considering I found it at Target!? Now I can sit back and enjoy the newly adorned wall and be grateful that I didn’t rush into purchasing just any old piece to fill it. ♥
Also, I just added a Facebook page for Twirly Skirts – I would be so honored if you would go ‘like’ me!

Last night I finally bit the bullet and bought the domain MsTwirlySkirts.com and just to make sure it was off the market, I registered TwirlySkirtsBlog.com as well! I posted a little poll on Facebook and Twitter to see what people thought about one vs. the other. It was a bit torn, I must say. Some felt that I am “Ms. Twirly Skirts” on Twitter so I should keep it that way. However some people thought TwirlySkirtsBlog.com was easier to read and less confusing. Hmmm what’s a girl to do? Just like when I am torn between 2 too-fabulous-to-miss dresses I just have to have them both. I do agree with some (including my older sister whose opinion trumps everyone else who weighed in on the subject) that MsTwirlySkirts.com just wins:) I found this fun little celebratory photo on Pinterest for some lovely eye candy. I would also like to give a little shout-out to Glitter & Pearls who just added me to her blogroll. Her site is too adorable! Enjoy this eye candy and if you have not done so, please follow me on Bloglovin’!
Now onto another topic: my trip home this weekend. I am travelling up to Danville again this weekend and can’t wait to see my family. I wanted to show a few more photos from my parent’s home that are too cute to waste! These are a few vintage pieces my mom has collected that are adorable. These would fly off the shelves if they were available at Anthropologie or on Etsy. Enjoy! ♥

This weekend I felt exhausted from a very long work week. Needless to say, I remained in sweats for almost the entire weekend. It felt fabulous. However, during our Sunday morning walk to the Brentwood Farmer’s Market I was ready to bring some beauty back in time for the week ahead. I headed straight to the flower stand to choose some lovely bunches to liven up our apartment. These white hydrangeas caught my eye. I think they look great on our entry table next to this chalkboard candle because they are such a stark contrast. These will be the first thing I see when I walk through the door after work and that is something to smile about. ♥

This weekend while I was up in Danville, I got to see the most recent update on my parents’ house. The entire kitchen was completely remodeled and finally complete enough for my mom to decorate. My mom has always had an inherent knack for decorating, so I was not surprised that it looked great already. What I was surprised about is the way she took some great old items and featured them in the brand new kitchen.
This vintage milkshake maker, perched up on a shelf at eye level is a great whimsical focal point.
These green jars are a great accent with a bright pop of color. They would be cute to pull off the shelf and use as vases for some wildflowers as well!
This line-up of cookbooks is accented by these jars and scale. The colors of the cookbooks themselves are fantastic, but these little touches are what make the room complete. ♥

A few weeks ago while shopping at Alessi on Robertson Boulevard, I ordered this modern, geometric fruit bowl to replace the icky wooden one on our counter. I think pieces that take up a significant part of your counter space definitely need to mesh with the overall decor of your home. I was instantly obsessed with the shape and how the metal rectangles seem to be floating next to each other. Our apartment is decorated with a modern touch including lots of black and other neutrals accented with bright colors. Coincidentally, I receive the bowl the same day this article from Rachel Zoe appeared in my inbox. Needless to say I had quite the b!#ch stole my look moment. With its color blocking and modern shapes, Prabal Gurung’s line on the runways of NY Fashion week was calling my name. Prabal – I like your style. ♥

I am obsessed with Etsy.com for so many reasons. One of them is because it has transformed what was, as Rachel Zoe would say, a clusterfuck of necklaces into a gorge display. I have collected so many necklaces because I am a sucker for a powerful statement piece. Problem is – these pieces take up A LOT of space in a little jewelry case! I took to the pages of Etsy.com to find an affordable necklace rack that didn’t compete with the beauty of the necklaces themselves. I found this one shown on my wall here and had no problem filling it up. I forced myself to do some early spring cleaning and edited my collection down. I am now able to fit a few bracelets on the side! I love the idea of allowing pretty baubles to decorate a section of your room. I have my Red Envelope jewelry box left open where some precious photos peek out at me as I choose my accessories for the day. So now I won’t feel so bad when I don’t wear a piece for a while because I know it is getting some show time decorating my room. ♥
